Vintage FISH LETTER OPENER - Silver Plated in Fishtail Sheath

Description

From end to end, this unusual vintage fish letter opener measures 9 inches. At the widest, it is about 1 1/2 inches, and most of the fish is about one inch wide. It is approx. 3/8 inches thick in the middle.
There are hints that the silver color or plating was applied over brass. Inside the sheath you can see something like layers of thick paper or cardboard or maybe cork. Whichever, it is firmly attached.
This item was among my late husband's memorabilia from before we met in 1982, likely purchased on a trip, as he and his family went on foreign trips.
I have no idea what the two links are, nor the tiny hole in the fish tail.
I cannot find another letter opener like this one in my Internet searches and image searches, though I did find something similar for sale, with an unknown animal head rather than a fish. The inside of the sheathing looked like the one here. That seller thought the item was made in India. Perhaps.
