Handpainted Marked Nippon Porcelain Doll
(1891-1921)
This is a lovely old Nippon hand-painted Doll.  She is in great condition for age and dates between 1891 and 1921.   These are the years that the McKinley Tariff Act required that all porcelain be marked with the country of origin.  Though "Nippon" translates "Japan", it wasn't until 1921 that the U.S. Government changed its position to having the porcelains marked Japan instead of Nippon.
The head is porcelain.  She is marked Nippon on her upper back.  She wears an adorable off-white dress appointed with lace.  The body is fairly solid, possibly batting material (?).   The lower arms/hands and lower legs/feet are porcelain.  She has painted brown shoes.  There are no chips or cracks to the porcelain.  The dress has some staining to the right side, as shown.  She is 7 1/2 inches and looks fabulous with the canopy doll bed we are selling separately.
